Risk Matters - Winter 2026

Tier 2 Safety Award - 9 July

Congratulations to the Shire of Kellerberrin on receiving the Tier 2 Diligence in Safety Award. CEO James Sheridan visited the Shire earlier this month to meet the team and present the award.

The award recognises strong results through LGIS’s ‘3 Steps to Safety’ program. The three steps are – Assess, Plan and Act – designed to lift long-term workplace health and safety performance.

Achieving the Tier 2 certificate means meeting the more than 80% of the Tier 2 checklist, while showing continuous improvement in day-to-day safety practices.

LG Professionals – Finance Conference – 18/19 March

LGIS attended the LG Professionals WA Finance Professionals Conference, with CEO James Sheridan and the Member Services team on site. Our presence helped strengthen relationships with local government finance professionals, stay close to member priorities, and increase visibility of LGIS support and services. Attending also provided opportunities to connect with delegates and exhibitors, gather practical insights from across the sector, and identify emerging issues to inform how we support members

Understanding the Reasonable Administrative Action exclusion in the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act 2023 (WA)

The Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act 2023 (WA) introduced a significant change to the assessment of psychological injury claims in Western Australia. While the Act retains a broad definition of injury, section seven contains a new exclusion for psychological and psychiatric disorders arising from ‘reasonable administrative action’ taken by an employer.

City of Belmont – Offsite Board Meeting and Workshop – 20 March

The LGIS Board of Directors were pleased to visit the City of Belmont. The City graciously hosted a member breakfast as well as the Board meeting. LGIS Directors welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with members to discuss the opportunities and challenges arising in their local governments.
